Will the Door Monkey work with my doors?
What is the difference between standard and non-standard door stop moulding?
Will the Door Monkey work with front doors (exterior doors)?
No, exterior doors are typically 1-5/8″ thick and will not work with the Door Monkey.
Is the Door Monkey portable?
Yes, the Door Monkey is very simple to install and very Portable. This makes it perfect for those trips to grandma’s house.
Can my child defeat the Door Monkey?
The Door Monkey can stop most toddlers, but there are certain situations where it can be defeated.
- A child could use a chair to reach the Door Monkey
In this case you should install the Door Monkey higher and beyond the reach of your child, even when they are standing on the chair.
- The door stop moulding is not square.
Some decorative or rounded door stop moulding does not provide the necessary edge for the Door Monkey to lock onto. Nonstandard moulding will require the Optional Catch. (see above: What is the difference between standard and non-standard door stop moulding?)
- A child gets a running start at the door and breaks through
The Door Monkey can handle approximately 40 to 50 lbs (18-23 kg) of force before it comes loose or breaks. It is best to start using the Door Monkey at an early age. If a toddler learns that the door won’t open with the lock installed, they will be less likely to try to break through as they get older. In extreme cases two Door Monkeys can be installed on the same door.
